Restructuring the SDA as an Active Political Party

The Scottish Democratic Alliance was registered with the Electoral Commission as a political party in 2009. Between 2009 and 2012 the SDA functioned primarily as a Think Tank, researching and developing draft policies which Scotland will require post Independence. Draft policies for many of the key areas of statehood have now been achieved.

At the SDA AGM in 2012 the decision was made to become an active political party with the objective of achieving seats in the Scottish Parliament and to contest the European Parliamentary elections.

During January 2013, the SDA executive held a series of discussions to determine the re-structuring required to operate as an active political party.

Details of the re-structured organisation and areas where further participation is desired from members will be advised shortly.

Charter of the Commonwealth

On the 14th December 2012 Ministers of the countries which constitute the Commonwealth agreed a Charter of the Commonwealth.

The Scottish Democratic Alliance applaud this initiative and suggest that the Scottish Government support in principle this historic Charter.

An Independent Country is one which is self-governing and in control of its own money (Currency and Taxation Policies).

Reference: “Chamber’s Compact Dictionary”

Today, Scotland is some 70% controlled by the European Union with the remaining control shared between the Westminster and the Scottish Governments. The Westminster government currently controls money in Scotland.
